FINANCING SOURCE

Government-Guaranteed Financing

A government guarantee can help a participating lender support a transaction that needs a different risk structure. The lender still underwrites the request, and program rules change.

Understanding government-guaranteed financing

A government guarantee can change the risk a participating lender is able to consider. It does not replace the lender’s repayment review, and each program has its own permitted uses, borrower criteria and documentation.

Common structures and uses

SBA 7(a)

This program may support eligible business purposes through participating lenders. Confirm the current uses and requirements with the SBA and lender.

SBA 504

This structure generally focuses on eligible major fixed assets and involves a Certified Development Company and lender. Project and ownership details matter.

USDA and export programs

Certain rural or export-related projects may have a relevant program path. Location, activity, use of proceeds and participating lender requirements must be checked.

What a lender will review

A source can fit the goal and still need a clear repayment and risk story.

  • Program eligibility and eligible use of proceeds
  • Repayment ability and lender underwriting
  • Ownership, location or export activity where relevant

When this source may fit

  • A sound request that does not fit a conventional structure
  • A specific program that aligns with use, borrower and location

Where borrowers can lose time or options

Eligibility discovered late

Ownership, use of funds, location or project structure can affect whether a program applies.

Incomplete package

Program forms and lender financial requests add steps when records are missing or inconsistent.

Assumed approval or timeline

A guarantee is not an approval. The lender and any program review still determine terms and timing.

Terms and obligations to compare

  • Program-specific documents, eligibility and timing
  • A guarantee does not remove lender credit review

Ask about total cost, proceeds, guarantees, collateral, covenants, reporting and timing in the actual proposal.

How Alliance helps

A program that looks promising can consume weeks if the use or ownership does not qualify. Alliance screens the transaction against the intended program, organizes the financial package, and compares other financing paths. You gain a clearer picture of the requirements before investing more time. The participating lender and agency decide eligibility and approval.

Current program information

Program rules change. Verify eligibility, uses and requirements with the agency and participating lender.
